Integration courses
Since 2005, EU citizens, late repatriates, asylum seekers and people with a residence permit in the Federal Republic of Germany as well as other foreign citizens in accordance with § 43, 44 and 44a of the Residence Act (AufenthG) have been able to take part in an integration course aimed at teaching them the language, the basic democratic order, general knowledge of the history and culture of the country and familiarising them with living conditions in the Federal Republic to such an extent that they can now act independently in all aspects of life. Thus, the main goal of the integration course is to prepare people for a self-determined life in Germany.
The entire integration course comprises between 600 and 900 teaching units, which are divided into different modules based on each other. The aim of the integration course is to acquire sufficient language skills (A2 / B1) to enable the inclusion of people, their social participation and equal opportunities.
After successful completion of the B1 module, learners take the German Test for Immigrants (DTZ), which tests the knowledge acquired so far. This is followed by the last module, the so-called orientation course, in which participants are taught basic knowledge of German history, culture and regional studies. With the examination Life in Germany (LiD) following the orientation course, you complete the integration course as a whole.
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), which is part of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), cooperates with public and private educational institutions, which organise and offer modular integration courses of different formats and levels on behalf of BAMF, with the aim of implementing integration measures.
Since 2016, the FONS Academy has been acting in this context as an accredited integration course provider and part of a regional network of educational institutions and language schools. Since then, we have continuously and with above-average success conducted integration courses in various formats.
