German for professional purposes (BSK)

The language courses for professional purposes (BSK) following the German Promotion Ordinance (DeuFöV) according to §45 a AufenthG provide language learning opportunities for people with a migration background who want to improve their professional chances on the German labour market. These language courses, similar to integration courses, have a modular structure and are offered at different language levels.

German courses for professional purposes (BSK) are aimed at asylum seekers from countries with a high protection rate, EU citizens and Germans with a migrant background who

• need a certain language level for professional recognition and/or access to the profession
• are undergoing training or are looking for a training place
• are registered as jobseekers and/or receive unemployment benefits
• have a job, but their knowledge of German is not sufficient to cope with everyday working life

In order to participate in a professional language course, you must have successfully completed an integration course or at least have reached language level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Depending on your language skills, you can complete suitable basic or special modules in the professional language courses, which usually last 3 months:

• Basic modules (300 teaching units each)
• Special modules (300 to 600 teaching units each)

Each module concludes with a corresponding language examination. After passing the exam, you will receive a certificate certifying that you have reached the respective language level (B2, C1, C2). You need the language certificate in order to be able to work in certain professions. It will also help you to find a job and to continue your career as a recognised proof of your knowledge of German.

If you are interested in participating in one of our professional language courses, contact your intermediaries in the Jobcentre or the Employment Agency. These will entitle you to take part in an appropriate professional language course at your language level. Our employees will take care of everything else for you.
